To promote lifelong learning and civil discourse, The New Albany Community Foundation established The New Albany Lecture Series in 2014. It features a collection of stimulating forums with some of the most compelling thought leaders of our time. The 2021-2022 New Albany Lecture Series season includes the following:

During the 2020-2021 season, the New Albany Lecture Series adapted to the pandemic by transitioning to virtual programming, which enabled thousands of people from across the country to participate. Additionally, the student lectures that accompany the community lectures were held virtually which allowed any school district in central Ohio to participate.  To date, more than 22,000 students have participated in Foundation student lectures.

For the fourth year in a row, the Foundation will present a program, as part of the New Albany Center for Civil Discourse & Debate, that highlights opposing views on timely, relevant issues. This year’s presentation will feature a lively discussion between Former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich and Former Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove.

Additionally, the Foundation will continue its effort to destigmatize the topic of mental health by presenting World Cup Champion, Best Selling Author and Advocate Abby Wambach, interviewed by Pelotonia CEO Doug Ulman. Community partners for this lecture include Healthy New Albany and Wellbeing Connection. In 2015, the Foundation launched the mental health conversation in the community by presenting Mariel Hemingway. Her appearance stimulated productive dialogue among students as well as adults.  And as a result, evidenced based programs were implemented in the schools and mental health resources were made available to the community.  The Foundation has continued to carry the topic forward with other presenters including Patrick Kennedy, Elizabeth Vargas, Glenn Close, Michael Phelps, Margaret Trudeau and this season’s appearance by Abby Wambach.

“We launched the ninth season of our lecture series virtually in October with Pulitzer Prize winning author, Isabel Wilkerson,” said Craig Mohre, President of The New Albany Community Foundation. “Like so many others, we adapted to the pandemic and forged ahead with programming in the virtual environment. After seven virtual lectures we are so excited to get back to live and in person presentations in 2022, especially given the quality of this season’s speakers and the topics we’ll be covering.”
