Lectures are hosted by The Foundation at The Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts, 100 E. Dublin Granville Road, New Albany. Season sponsors include Abercrombie & Fitch, American Electric Foundation and Battelle.

The New Albany Community Foundation established The New Albany Lecture Series to promote lifelong learning and civil discourse. Over the years the Lecture Series has grown to national prominence through its presentation of sought-after speakers and panelists covering compelling topics for adult and student audiences. Since inception, more than 44,000 community members and 26,000 students representing 50 central Ohio high schools have participated.

“When we launched the Lecture Series a decade ago we were very encouraged by the audience reaction. Donors came forward to sponsor speakers and students expressed their gratitude for being able to interact with accomplished thought leaders such as Condoleezza Rice, David McCullough, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Jon Meacham, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Isabel Wilkerson and many more,” said Craig Mohre, president of The New Albany Community Foundation.  “Now in our tenth year, our focus remains on providing opportunities for adults and students to hear different perspectives and life experiences from compelling speakers. We have five exciting lectures planned that will address issues such as mental well-being, history, civil discourse and national security. We are grateful to our sponsors for making this caliber of programming possible.”

The 10th anniversary season launches with the renowned pioneer of integrative medicine, Deepak Chopra MD, on October 18, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Chopra will be interviewed by Dr. Andrew Thomas, Interim Co-Leader and Wolfe Foundation Chief Clinical Officer, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Dr. Chopra’s appearance has been made possible with support from the Mershad Family Foundation and community partners for the program include Healthy New Albany and Wellbeing Connection.

In collaboration with the Foundation, Healthy New Albany and Wellbeing Connection will present additional programs around Dr. Chopra’s visit such as classes and a community book read. Details can be found at healthynewalbany.org and thewellbeingconnection.org.

“It’s gratifying to see our community embrace and prioritize healthy living,” said Sara Mershad of the Mershad Family Foundation. “When we were presented with the opportunity to further community conversation on health and well-being by sponsoring a visit from the legendary Deepak Chopra, we immediately said yes. It’s been a long-time dream of mine to introduce Dr. Chopra to New Albany.”

Efforts to address and destigmatize the topic of mental health and wellness in New Albany were advanced in 2015 when the Foundation presented Mariel Hemingway. Her appearance stimulated productive dialogue among students as well as adults and led to the formation of several community groups including Wellbeing Connection. The Foundation has continued to carry the topic forward with other Lecture Series presenters including Patrick Kennedy, Elizabeth Vargas, Glenn Close, Michael Phelps, Margaret Trudeau and last season’s virtual appearance by Abby Wambach, which was one of its most well-attended programs to date.

“We are confident that Dr. Chopra’s experience and knowledge in his field will bring greater understanding of how to achieve a healthy life balance,” said Mohre.
