Barbara and Al Siemer | 2017

At-risk families, and particularly children, have benefitted from the Siemer’s vision and extraordinary generosity.  As caring community advocates, the Siemers leveraged his entrepreneurial skills as founder of Desco Corporation with her philanthropic expertise to have a national impact . Barbara teamed up with United Way – first in Sarasota, Florida, and then in central Ohio – on programs to help children succeed by preventing family homelessness.  In 2011, the couple created the Siemer Institute for Family Stability to nationalize the concept, which resulted in them receiving the United Way Worldwide’s National Tocqueville Society Award. They supported any number of New Albany community initiatives, including the library and McCoy Center.  Barbara served on the  New Albany Community Foundation board and chaired it, helping guide the Foundation during it’s early developmental years.
