Dr. Ralph Johnson (2006)

When Dr. Johnson arrived in New Albany in 1992, the district has less than 700 students and 50 teachers, the lowest paid staff in Central Ohio, less than 50% of students attended college and it was ranked among the lowest academic performing school districts in Franklin County. When he retired in 2005, New Albany was among the highest rated districts in the State of Ohio.

The district grew to over 3000 students with a highly qualified staff of over 500. The architect of the “Learning Community” concept, Dr. Johnson guided the construction of the Learning Community Campus. Under his leadership, public-private partnerships were forged, resulting in expanded opportunities for students.

While the beauty of the campus and the long list of collaborations form an impressive record of achievement, Dr. Johnson’s enduring legacy will be how he nurtured and instilled a love of life-long learning to the students he touched as Superintendent.
